This last weekend we traveled down to the countryside just outside of Branson, Missouri to stay with friends from our Bible study, Mike and Tammy. They own a house there in the middle of a beautiful forest that overlooks a lake.
We were able to see lots of wildlife (birds, deer, a bobcat!), take a hike in the woods just off of their backyard, and do some sightseeing. On Saturday we went to Silver Dollar City (a theme park) and the Hollywood Wax Museum in Branson. Our favorite part of the museum was actually a Maze of Mirrors section. Poor Taylor was so excited by the maze that she ran full speed, face-first into a mirror. She kind of clung to me after that point. Overall, it was a fantastic little weekend getaway!
We had our second house appraisal today for refinancing. The first company we were considering had some fuzzy math going on, so we got a second estimate and are pleased with the process so far.
This time the appraiser came just when he said he would (not a day-early-surprise visit like last time!) and the house was very tidy. I'm pleased with the improvements we've made and look forward to relaxing a bit now.
In other news, we met with a midwife who is starting up a birthing center in St. Charles in June and we were very excited about what we heard. The birthing center will be like a big home that offers a relaxing, supportive environment for birthing naturally. Midwife assisted births have been found to have better outcomes than a typical physical attended, hospital births (read study here) and I like the more personalized approach. It sounds like they really know what they're doing and there are good back-ups plans in place in case of an emergency (i.e. a hospital is just 1 mile away). I am excited to switch over my care when they open up, and I can even stay with the midwife for regular check-ups after the baby is born.
This weekend, Taylor and I are jet-setting off to San Diego, CA for my cousin Katrina's wedding. Meanwhile, Mark will be headed to Evansville to meet our newest little niece, Sarah Anna Corbett - born just yesterday to his sister Ann and her husband Jon!
